The DEFEND Cleveland Show

Keeping the Faith Minus the Stars

All while our two largest assets are continuing to prove their fragility, there is an unfamiliar feeling of faith lingering around our roster—some young journeymen, some filler, all Super Rich Kids. But the rest of the starters and the bench have folded into an odd zone.

They are not winning the games right now but look at what they are doing. They are doing basketball. They are doing chemistry. Not even in the LeBron era and winning the most games in the NBA did we see this level of team work. You might look back and argue that as a low point for camaraderie.

Everyone seems in on the game. Shaun Livingston could be the catalyst if there is one. Speights  and Ellington seem at home. C.J. Miles is dopily relaxing. Dion? Dion. Even our pilgrim veteran, Luke ‘WASP’ Walton, is relishing his every chance to puff chest in front of the children, earning the moniker of “Facilitator”. Thought he seems to be either completely on or laughably inept [read: uncoordinated (read: white as fuck)]. Maybe he has something to prove after lazily drifting into two championship rings and literally doing nothing to earn the name Walton.

We have been largely trapped inside our geographic force field. Every year there have been several players on the Cavalier roster who conjure the thought ‘these mothers wouldn’t be playing on a single other basketball team’. This thought is usually accompanied by the immediate adage ‘except maybe Sacramento’. What is it about Sacramento? The odd, distant and sexless older brother of every other metro-Cali city.

What the Cavs need now is love sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of. That and experience. And bone plates. Shit maybe we should purge all stars from every Cleveland sports roster. We hate the bourgeois.
