The DEFEND Cleveland Show

Just Give in Already: Why it’s not too Early to Look to Next Year

We are here with our noses to the ground. Pull and shoot the duck and we run. This wild game (card) hunt is exciting and we should embrace it but it is not too early to start teeming with excitement for next year for several reasons:

1 – The team is all around short. We need that little something-something in our hitting, starting pitching, bullpen, etc. We want the playoff hunt, the wild card. Let’s not deny ourselves that indulgence. It will up our appeal to snag some big timers in the off-season. Therefore, this off-season can do us no harm

2 – We are short, but we are deep. We have a great batch of situational players and we have the ability to replace multiple roles on the field without losing steam or talent. That is depth, Mr. Cousteau.

3 – Our coaching can only improve. Look at what Tito has done with Raburn, who was found in a ditch with a needle in his arm after a dismal and depression-inducing 2012 season. Detroit can be tough on a man.

4 – Prospects, prospects, prospects. Our farm system puts to shame the land-raping that brought California its sense of entitlement. Eisenhower himself couldn’t brand a more exhumed sense of riches, only ours is authentic and won’t shatter under the illusion of wealth and lifestyle superiority after 50 years (California is cray). Not even Reagan couldn’t wreck this shit.

5 – Dollar dogs. We seem to have more of them than ever. And unless we sell out the last couple of weeks of this season, we’re sure to kick of 2014 with the same mentality: Rope in those fat bastards at any cost.

So there you have it. To recap, we have built a foundation that is more solid than Gibraltar, we are missing a seemingly singular piece in just about every aspect excepting coaching and prospects, and we are still fat. Go Tribe!
