The DEFEND Cleveland Show

Sex, Love, and Sports Writing

sports writers
There are exactly three things worth writing about in life: sex, love, and getting fucked up. By a larger extension, these are the three things worth biding your time for, worth planning a future around, worth doing, worth seeing. Combined they provide any semblance of narrative proof in the harakiri fucked-upedness of it all. They are worthy of, were there someone, a god, to give one, a cosmic shit. If you are not doing/writing these things then there is nothing for you in life. Say goodbye as you telescope in on yourself taking paranoia enemas amid brain purging identity loss, sad sad self-imploding simp. You are inevitably getting fucked up but without at least one of the others it is very destructive.

So why then Sport? Why choose this synthesized mass level game to write on? Simple. Because of its synthetic root. Sport refines human condition into an unbelievably complex product that is both systematic and workable. We are remarkably adept at, at least in Cleveland we are, understanding it on droves of scales. Reason and self-inspection, we hold dear, inescapably individualistic. Yet Sport remains emotionally tender. The combination of higher-functioning human reason and more basic animal instincts allow it to contain great comedy and even greater tragedy; love, allegiance, human grovel, waste, testimony, human bonds, rolling in the dust and spitting at the help. Being a microcosm of those things, Sport almost purely presents, in a human-created and controlled ecosystem no less, the comings and goings of sex, love, and getting fucked up.

Furthermore, do not trust any sports writer or journalist who claims to not be acting on his or her instinct to write on these three pillars. He or she is untrue to his or her selves as well as the greater Sport and should not be trusted. Even the beat writers are drooling voyeurs with pen, paper, and a half-wit over-cost education.
