The DEFEND Cleveland Show

Irony in Sports

We spent last night scouring the internet for headlines which rendered our original opening sentence correct [‘For proof that sport is the last bastion of culture uninfused with irony (read: validated), one need check no further than the local headlines’]. With our neuroses for style, we Hemmingway-ed the sentence into submission for several minutes, at which point, feeling bound to relish the headings and insulate the thesis, our said search began. But perhaps we are better off never culling the difference. Josh Gordon will be slinging cars for the Sarchiones as if he owes someone higher up the food chain a favor. We can only assume this gang of would-be train robbers reached some pendulum-of-despair-esque bargain with Gordon (and so Gordon with the devil) that will keep him in camo Porsches while still being the bang boy for Chevys. If the camouflage automobiles of a chronic highway patrolman’s wet dream were not also that of the ultimate cynic, now we have the triple entendre with an NFL future-hall-of-famer cum mafia car pusher. And we thought pluralism was the worst that could happen.
